Born May 1, 1968 near Bordeaux, Alain Laboile is an atypical photographer. In 2004, he purchased a digital camera to inventory and depict his sculptures: he started his artistic career as a sculptor working with wood, stone and metal. In childhood, he developed a passion for entomology (with its tiny subjects), hence his particular interest in macrophotography. He expanded his autodidactic skills by joining an online photography forum where he learnt much from professionals, and went on to win first prize in the Canon Les 20 ans d’Eos (2007) and Le Défi Eos (2008) competitions.

A self-taught photographer and father of six, Laboile has been photographing his children for a number of years, in the form of unprepared everyday shooting sessions. His real-life snapshots are a playful take on the unbridled everyday art-de-vivre in a timeless family. From one image to the next, the life of his endearing children, with their wheelbarrow races and fingers up their noses, is pervaded by the poetry of the moment and perpetual insouciance.

He invites us to delve into his family album and explore life on the edge of the world, expressing the timelessness and universality of childhood.
